With only a few more days until the end of the world as we know it, surely everyone has their survival gear all packed and ready to go. But for those lazy-bones last minute disaster preparers Panasonic feels they have developed the “ultimate disaster survival flashlight”, called Any Battery Light.
As the name suggests, this flashlight can run on any common battery you find lying around, regardless of its size, from AAA to D.
Think your built-in rechargeable battery using light will work this Friday? Well, see how well it charges after Cthulhu sends your home and all its outlets to the dimension of chaos. Got yourself one of those lamps that run on salt water? Good luck when every underwater volcano erupts simultaneously, causing the oceans to boil.
That’s right. When the apocalypse strikes the best weapon is a good old dry cell – except 9-volts. Who uses those anymore anyway?
Previous flashlights were created that ran on your choice of AA to D sized batteries. However, the Any Battery Light can work on a single AAA battery if needed. Given the increasing use of AAA batteries this is an important development.
If you insert one of each sized battery you can expect up to 86 hours of operation. The flashlight uses one battery at a time selected by rotating the lamp end of the light.
The flashlight has an energy efficient arrangement of light emitting diodes (LED) to achieve AAA compatibility.
Panasonic got the inspiration for this survival light after a massive demand for flashlights following the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011.
The estimated price is around 2,000 yen (US$24) which shouldn’t matter as all money will spontaneously combust into green flame on 21 December. Be sure to pick one up before then end. It might just save your life.
Panasonic says that the Any Battery Light will be available on 25 January, 2013… oh.
