VE-GDW03DL

Panasonic announces the release of a digital cordless phone, VE-GDW03DL, which allows the use of a smartphone as a sub-handset over a wireless internet connection. The domestic chat device is set to hit stores on 14 November, and has an open price tag.

The VE-GDW03DL features a main phone set that taps into your home’s wireless internet connection and links up with smartphones via an exclusive app – Smartphone Connect for GDW03 (compatible with Android 4.0 and up, iOS5.0 and up). Up to 4 devices can be connected as sub-handsets. The new technology allows users to access the phonebook in their smartphone to make calls from their fixed telephone line. More conveniently, it allows users to answer incoming calls to their home phone with their smartphones.

The main phone set also comes equipped with a smartphone stand and USB terminal to facilitate charging of your smartphone.

The company explains that they focused on the “convenience factor of a smartphone, that allows consumers to get on the phone anywhere,” resulting in a product that “is extremely convenient as it allows phone calls from a fixed telephone line using a smartphone, saving the trouble of moving to where your home phone is”.

Sounds like a nifty gadget targeted for families, especially when mom is busy chasing butt-naked kids around, or if granny can’t make it to the phone fast enough before the ringing stops. Besides, there’s always room for a new toy, right?
