Move over cats–you’re not needed anymore. The internet’s got a new animal to obsess over–kangaroos!
You’ve probably never spent an entire afternoon watching YouTube videos of marsupials, but now’s the perfect time to start. What happens when two male kangaroos meet each other in the middle of the street in a typical suburban neighborhood? Keep reading after the jump to find out!
In my neck of the woods, it’s not uncommon to see wild deer, turkeys, or foxes crossing the local roads. But kangaroos? Only the folks in Australia get to witness that sweet sight.
Speaking of which, last month one lucky passerby happened to record a video of two male kangaroos ‘boxing’ in New South Wales, Australia for about five minutes straight. While that behavior is not so unusual in itself, the fact that the chance encounter occurred in the middle of a residential neighborhood adds a humorous element to the situation. The video has recently drawn interest from many Japanese net users, who undoubtedly wish that they could have experienced the scene firsthand.
Let’s take a look at the five-minute clip next:
▼Uh, hey, guys? You’re getting awfully close to that car…
▼Kanga used Mega Kick! It’s super effective.
▼Fighting for dominance, or interpretive dancing?
▼”I can push you away with one finger!
▼At least they’re considerate marsupials–even while beating each other up, they stick to the sidewalk.
Japanese net users responded to the video with some of the following comments:
“Why is Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers playing in the background?”
“I feel like I could watch this forever as I’m sipping my tea.”
“It’s like a video game. All that ripped-out fur looks like tumbleweed.”
“That background music is really unnecessary.”
“It’s so cool how they can support themselves with their tail!”
“I think I could take them.”
“You could probably win against a wallaby if your luck’s good. But against a wild kangaroo? There’s no way.”
We have to agree with the commenters about the background music. Wouldn’t the Rocky theme be a more appropriate choice?
By the way, you may be familiar with the word joey, which signifies a young kangaroo, but do you know the terms for a male and female kangaroo? According to Wikipedia, males are called bucks, boomers, jacks, or old men, while females are known as does, flyers, or jills. The collective noun for a group of kangaroos is a mob, troop, or court. That just conjures up some scary mental images…
