New Japan-exclusive collectibles are only available at select locations.
Japan is famous for gacha capsule toys, and now Starbucks is finally joining the fun with its very first collection of gacha-style collectibles.
Released as part of the chain’s 30th anniversary celebrations in Japan, the new “Starbucks Joyful Capsule” collection consists of nine different plush charms inspired by some of the chain’s most iconic beverages and food items.
Each palm-sized charm comes sealed inside a capsule measuring approximately 7.5 centimetres (3 inches) in diameter, with the design remaining a surprise until it’s opened. Every plush comes with a hook attachment so you can easily clip them onto bags and pouches or even connect multiple charms together.
Some stores will dispense the capsules through traditional gacha machines, while others will sell them over the counter, although Starbucks notes that sales methods may change depending on the store. Each capsule in the five-piece standard collection costs 880 yen (US$5.40).
▼ Double Tall Latte (To Go)
▼ Caramel Macchiato (For Here)
▼ Tokyo Roast
▼ Matcha Cream Frappuccino
▼ Sugar Doughnut
Customers at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo will also be able to pick up an exclusive second collection called Starbucks Reserve Joyful Capsule, featuring four designs inspired by signature drinks and food sold at the Roastery. These capsules are slightly more expensive, at 1,100 yen each.
▼ Caffe Americano (To Go)
▼ Caffe Latte (For Here)
▼ Tokyo Roastery Microblend
▼ Cornetti Crema
While the Roastery collection will be exclusively sold at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo, the standard range will be available at the following 19 Starbucks stores in Tokyo.

The charms all measure approximately 5-8 centimetres, depending on the design, and are said to be suitable for ages 15 and up. Starbucks will initially be limiting sales to two per transaction, in an effort to ensure as many customers as possible have a chance to purchase them, as these look set to become a sell-out hit.
Though the chain announced that both ranges would be available from 2 August, it has now said that in light of the 28 July earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture, which resulted in a number of fatalities, it has decided to postpone the release. Starbucks says it will notify the public of the new release date as soon as it’s decided, and we will update this page with the new date when it’s announced.
