Company responds to Nikkei’s report that NX’s OS is Android-based.
The Japanese financial newspaper Nikkei reported in an online article on Monday that Nintendo will use an Android-based operating system for its next console, currently codenamed NX.
Kadokawa’s Weekly ASCII asked Nintendo to respond, and a representative for Nintendo said, “We usually do not comment on online articles. However, this has spread even overseas, so we will provide a statement. There is no truth to the report that the OS of the next-generation game console “NX” is Android.”
Nintendo had said that it will release more details about the NX next year. Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata acknowledged in May that the company is considering making NX region-free.
