In Japan “straps” can be found everywhere. They’re like key chains, but with an elastic band. People primarily attach them to their mobile phones, but you can also spot them on anything else under the sun like gym bags or sleep apnea machines.
Now it seems that mother nature is getting in on the action by creating an eggplant with a loophole just right for attaching straps to. And attach straps is just what the lucky owner did.

This eggplant appears to have had a growth that protruded out the side and then curled around at just the right angle to make the ideal hole for a strap to attach to. The person who tweeted these photos, NyaKo, said it was found in a three-pack sold at the local supermarket.
Naturally, like anyone living in Japan, NyaKo probably had a drawer full of straps incidentally acquired free with purchases of various drinks, snacks, or electronic devices. So a charm was used of what appears to be Oto-san the dog of the Shirato Family as depicted in the long-running series of SoftBank commercials.
Sure enough, not only did the strap fit like a glove, but it also gave the fruit a hipper and more carefree attitude often unseen in such an aubergine. Netizens had this to say about the miracle.
“Hey, that’s handy.”
“I love eggplant. Please let me hook that onto my phone!!!!!”
“Does it have a camera function too?”
“I’d totally walk around with that.”
“How does it taste?”
Not one to waste food, NyaKo did end up chopping and stir-frying the eggplant along with some chicken, onion, and mushrooms. In its honor, the strap loop was left intact until eating. NyaKo did not comment as to the specific taste of the eggplant, but it’s safe to assume that it tasted like a regular one.

And so ends the legend of the eggplant which grew a strap holder. It now joins the ranks of other temporal heroes of the plant kingdom such as the escaping daikon, sexy daikon, and the suspiciously smiling green onions.
