Monkey see, monkey…spell?!
It’s the year of the monkey, and that means you can expect a lot monkeying around this year! Well, horrible jokes aside, it is the year of the monkey according to the Chinese zodiac, and the Awaji Island Monkey Center came up with an excellent way to celebrate: By having a group of wild monkeys flash mob and spell out “monkey” in katakana!
▼ We’re guessing the katakana “サル” was easier to write than the kanji “猿”.

Okay, we have to admit, we confess that we were exaggerating a little—the monkeys weren’t so much flash mobbing as mobbing each other for food, which was carefully laid out in the shape of the phonetic katakana characters for “monkey.” But you have to admit, it’s pretty amazing how perfectly the monkeys lined up along the food!
You’ll definitely want to check out the “making of” video to see the keeper pouring out the food.
That is easily one of the best jobs in the world, we’d say!
