Sanada Yukimura is among the most popular military leaders of medieval Japan. And now you can use his swords and spear to mangle all the paperwork you hate!
Last year, we saw some samurai sword scissors that totally changed our outlook on menial work like cutting up pieces of construction paper for craft projects, especially the set inspired by Nobunaga’s Heshikiri-hasebe. But maybe you’re more a fan of Sanada Yukimura, the latest historical figure to be immortalized with an NHK Taiga Drama series. If so, we have happy news for you!
Along with the release of the new TV show, Nikken Cutlery has prepared three Sanada items for all your paper-mangling needs!
First, there’s this letter opener designed after Sanada’s Jumonji Yari (a cross-shaped spear). Measuring in at 210 millimeters (about eight inches), the letter opener is a fair bit shorter than a real spear…but probably easier to use for opening letters.
The letter opener won’t be released until April, though, so you’ll have to continue using your hands to tear all your envelopes open, like a barbarian, for a few more months.
Also being released in April is a pair of premium scissors with a “scabbard” bearing Sanada’s emblem, Rokumonsen. Prices have not yet been announced for the premium scissors or letter opener yet, though they will likely be around 15,000 yen (about US$128) and 1,200 yen (about $10), respectively.
However, if you simply can’t wait to start cutting through paperwork with Sanada-themed scissors, it turns out the less-than-premium version is already available for pre-order on Amazon Japan for 2,450 yen (about $21). Amazon lists a release date of February 29, so you’ll still have time to practice your slicing and dicing skills.
