When you are hungering for a sweet treat, these cheap, little chocolates should do the trick!
There are always plenty of snacks to choose from when you get a craving. Japan makes it harder to choose because they like to base foods on themes that jump out at you and make you say, “Whoah, look at this!” Like many of us around the world, people in Japan have a strange obsession with the famous stone statues that come from Easter Island, the Moai. Bandai’s newest chocolate goody is inspired by those intriguing faces from the island south of the equator.
What makes this treat healthier/tastier/an abomination to all that is chocolate, is that there is a tasty biscuit underneath. The chocolate Moai faces come in nine unique designs (including one rare and unknown face) as well as nine skeleton faces that appear on the biscuit that wouldn’t look out-of-place on the head of Jack Skellington. The “Moais of Chocolay Island” come individually wrapped and are available countrywide in Japan for 50 yen (US$.50).
You might be wondering if there is an actual connection between Japan and Moai that fuels their fascination of the statues. While not a direct connection for the entire country, there is a town on the east coast that displays their very own Moai statue. Minamisanriku, Fukushima is home to a Moai that was given to them by the Chilean government after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

Whether you are a fan of Easter Island or not, it’s hard to say “No, thanks” to a chocolate and biscuit treat. The fun faces that you will encounter before you scarf them down are just an added bonus to your snack time!
