New rage room lets you smash things in the style of Marvel’s Thor or Cloud from Final Fantasy.
A lot has been written about the stresses of living and working in Japanese society, and while the country’s “kawaii” cute culture goes some way towards relieving the worries of everyday life with “iyasareru” (“healing”) effects, sometimes people need a more physical outlet for their anger.
Enter Crash Box Japan, the first rage room in Japan’s western Kansai region. While these rage rooms first appeared in America in 2008, before spreading to other countries around the world, Japan has been late to the game of paying to smash things up, with the country’s first rage room opening in Tokyo’s Asakusa district in April this year.
Now, people in Osaka will be able to enjoy the thrill of the rage room with a bevy of breakable items just waiting to be destroyed. Think dishes, old home appliances, furniture, bottles, and even champagne towers.
With full-body safety equipment provided, you can unleash your inner beast without having to worry about fragments of glass or metal piercing your skin. And you’ll be able to remember your smashing experience by taking pictures at special wall-art photo spots inside the event space.
You can even choose to channel Marvel’s Thor or Cloud from Final Fantasy while you go on your rampage of destruction.
Crash Box is open to solo customers or groups, with four different course options available, from the 8-kilogram (17-pound) “Test Course” to the 45-kilogram “Giga Course”, with prices starting from 3,800 yen (US$34.98) per person.
Reservations can be made in advance here, and given that the rage room is located close to Osaka’s busy Dotonbori district, it’s conveniently placed for both locals and tourists to visit.
So after a hard day of dealing with the crowds at Universal Studios and hoeing into octopus balls and all-you-can-eat KFC, you can stop by for a unique workout that burns calories and reduces stress at the same time!
