“Small manor in the Izu highlands” is getting ready to welcome guests once again.
At pretty much any hotel in Japan, you can count on cleaning staff to come in to vacuum the floors, empty the wastebasket, and change the linens on a daily basis. However, if the sort of “maid service” you’re looking for goes beyond such mundane housekeeping and instead encompasses the sort of polished personal attentiveness enjoyed at manor houses in classical eras, then you’ll be glad to know that Japan’s maid hotel will soon be accepting reservations.
Located in the town of Ito in Shizuoka Prefecture, The Hotel of Maids bills itself as “a small manor in the Izu highlands with maids.” Guests arriving by train will be picked up by the hotel’s butler at the nearest station and then driven back to the charming boutique hotel, where the maid staff will be on hand to greet them.
Dinner is a full-course meal of “casual French” cuisine, served by the maids, and when you’re ready for your bath, a maid will hand-deliver a set of towels to your room, and also guide you along the path to the hotel’s open-air Japanese-style private bath, should you choose to make use of it (note, though, that the maid does not accompany you into the bath).
When you’re ready for bed, a maid will serve you a cup of herbal tea in your room, to better coax your tired body into restful slumber…
…and there’s no need to set an alarm before hitting the sack, because when morning comes, a maid will awaken you with a gentle knock on your door…
…after which an elegant breakfast will be served in the hotel’s dining area.

It should be pointed out that, though the traditional maid outfit has proven to be enduringly popular with Japanese men, The Hotel of Maids is not a purveyor of prurient pleasures, but a provider of legitimate accommodations for travelers. Among the satisfied guests who’ve shared photos of their stay are couples and female travelers as well.

Available dates to stay at The Hotel of Maids are limited, as it’s technically a periodic event that borrows the Country House Hotel Izukogen Avonlea hotel as its venue. After taking the summer off, The Hotel of Maids will be returning for September 25, 26, 28, and 29, followed by October 23, 24, 26, and 27, with dates for November onward to be announced at a later time. Because of this limited availability, reservations are awarded through a lottery system. Applications can be made through the Hotel of Maids website, after which a cordial invitation will be extended to selected applicants to visit the manor.
