People from every corner of the globe are pumped for the new season of the anime Kuroko no Basuke (or the laughable English title, “The Basketball which Kuroko Plays”). In honor of the start of the fall anime season, Japanese clothing brand, earth music & ecology came out with a new line of clothes inspired by the characters in the show. Though the brand itself is quite trendy, comments on the basketball-inspired cardigans and dresses were lukewarm at best.
earth music & ecology has seen success in the past with their collaboration fashion line based around Vocaloid and its star, Hatsune Miku. This time, whether it’s because of the difference in fanbase, or the girlish design being at odds with the testosterone-heavy men’s basketball players embroidered on the outfits, fans are having a laugh at the new designs.
▼ “Not very cute, are they?”
▼ “What the heck are these? That’s too funny!”
▼ “Looks like girly-girls and boys-love fans got together for some collaboration! LOL”
And yet, despite the LOLs and teasing tweets, the online shop’s entire Kuroko no Basuke stock was sold out in a matter of days! Preorders opened on September 6 and have since been snatched up completely, including not only all pieces of apparel, but the colored hand towels, necklaces, and Tetsuya #2 keychain as well! It goes to show that when it comes to merchandise, fans will leave no stone unturned and nothing with blocky imprints of pretty boys unbought.
