Stuck inside due to the blistering Japanese summer heat? Why not kick back under your aircon and watch something on TV? If you’ve already seen all the hit shows and don’t want to take a chance on something new, how about watching some of Japan’s favorite anime of all time?
A new survey polled Japanese anime fans and asked them to name the anime they can watch over and over again and never get bored. Click on through to find out which one tops the list!
Our favorite creator of polls, My Navi Woman, started off by asking if there was an anime that people could watch over and over. With over 75 percent of those polled responding “yes”, the site asked those answering in the affirmative to reveal which one. So here are the top 10 along with some comments from the people polled!
- #10 – Lupin the Third – 3%
Not surprisingly, our favorite thief starts off our list.
“I find something new every time I watch it.”
- #9 – Gintama – 3.5%

Insanely popular recently, our crazy friends in Gintama come in next.
“Since it’s interesting and has lots of details, each time I watch it I see more interesting things that I hadn’t noticed before.”
- #7 (tie) – Spirited Away – 4%
The first of many Ghibli films, and one of the most celebrated Ghibli films in the west, comes in at no. 7.
“Because I feel that Chihiro’s purity purifies me.”
- #7 (tie) – YuYu Hakusho – 4%

An oldie but a goodie, Hunter x Hunter’s creator Yoshihiro Togashi’s first big hit still resonates with the fans.
“I get a different feeling each time I watch it.”
- #6 Princess Mononoke – 4.6%
The spirit of the forest will never truly die, as long as you keep watching this Ghibli film again and again!
“Because I’ve watched it from when I was a kid, so I am familiar with all the different issues being discussed but still it’s somehow always interesting.”
“I just rewatched it the other day, and I’m still not tired of it.”
- #4 (tie) – One Piece – 5%

Sometimes all you need to be is cool to be named to these lists. However, One Piece and the next entry, which are tied, are very, very different.
“It’s so popular. That’s all I need to say to answer the question.”
“Because it makes me feel happy and courageous and makes me laugh.”
- #4 (tie) – Crayon Shin-chan – 5%
Perhaps we all wish we were a little more like Shin-chan growing up. At least then our childhood would probably have been much more exciting.
“Because the feelings change when I watch as I grow older.”
“It is the most suitable way for me to release stress.”
- #3 – Detective Conan – 7%
This is Japan’s answer to Edgar Allen Poe and Sherlock Holmes. You don’t need Conan’s detective skills to understand why fans want to watch it again and again!
“There are so many episodes that I forget the plot of many of them.”
“I don’t get bored with it even when I do a marathon watching.”
“I’m very interested in the puzzles with the Black Organization.”
- #2 – Laputa: Castle in the Sky – 9%

Moving and exciting, Castle in the Sky might be the pinnacle of Ghibli movies.
“There are many famous scenes and I’m always admiring them.”
“There are plenty of unique individual characters and the movie is filled with funny jokes.”
“Ghibli movies are filled with grand stories and the various scenes are really beautiful, so that’s why I can watch it over and over.”
- #1 – My Neighbor Totoro – 15%

Laputa may be good but there’s something magical about Totoro. Easily re-watchable for both young and old fans. My Neighbor Totoro is certainly a favorite movie for many people in Japan and abroad.
“I started with Totoro but all Ghibli movies (I’ll re-watch), no matter how many times I watch the movies I never get bored. It’s more like they heal me.”
“It’s a movie that, when you watch it, has a different feeling depending on your age.”
“When I was small I watched it dozens of times and never lost interest in it.”
