While the Wii U hasn’t exactly been the biggest success in Nintendo’s history, we can’t help wondering if newly released game Splatoon is going to help turn things around. The game currently has a score of 81 on Metacritic (and an 8.3 out of 10 from users), so it’s certainly getting some appreciation from gamers and game critics alike overseas. Someone in Europe even stole a truck full of copies of the game and Amiibo!

But how about in Japan? We already know that there seems to be a lot of younger people excited about it, but it’s not just kids who are loving the game…

Apparently Niconico Douga game streamers also love the game. In fact, the day the game was released, videos of the game filled up the top 100 Niconico Douga ranking — it looks like eight out of a hundred of the videos were Splatoon videos! Take a look for yourself.

But that was last week! How about now? Surely the joy has worn off over the weekend and now all anyone cares about is cat videos.

Well, we just took a quick count, and the number of Splatoon videos in the top 100 has risen to 13! Man, we really hope people are least eating and sleeping between all the Splatoon binging…

If these rankings are any indication, it looks as if Nintendo finally has another strong exclusive title to help them move units of Wii U! But if you’re already bored with Splatoon, have no fear! Niconico Douga still has plenty of cat videos.

Hopefully the game will bring Nintendo some exciting numbers for their next quarterly sales report. And who knows, maybe you’ll even be able to play it on the next Google Nexus too!
