Sony had a pretty impressive E3 this year, with the company basking in the adoring gaze of gamers around the world who imagined themselves playing the remade Final Fantasy VII, back-from-the-dead Last Guardian, and long-awaited Shenmue 3 on the PlayStation 4. As a matter of fact, Sony’s strong showing no doubt has plenty of holdouts thinking that now is the time to finally upgrade to the great-grandson of the original PlayStation.
And as if those upcoming titles weren’t incentive enough to pick up a PlayStation 4, Sony is sweetening the deal with a new version of the console that’s lighter on both the scale and power consumption.
The upcoming CUH-1200 Series PlayStation 4 will be replacing the console’s first version, the CUH-1100, which made its world debut in North America in November of 2013. Equipped with a 500-gigabyte hard disk, the 1200 Series has the same gaming performance specs as its predecessor, but draws eight percent less electricity while in use. The unit is also 10 percent lighter, coming in at roughly 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds), and features new surface texturing on the case and HDD bay cover.
▼ The new model will be available in either Jet Black or Glacier White.
Pre-tax pricing has been announced at 39,980 yen in Japan, $399 in the U.S., and 399 Euros for the E.U. In a reverse of the initial PlayStation 4 launch, The CUH-1200 will first show up on store shelves in Japan later this month, with the new model later rolling out in North America and Europe to please gamers with an ecological mindset and those wanting a unique 2.5-kilo dumbbell alike.
