It promises to be an explosion of yummy in your tummy.
Beautiful summer days need some stunningly beautiful summer food. The Hankyu Hotel in Osaka has definitely got that covered thanks to its special summer roll cake that goes on sale June 20. This elegant and gorgeous cake has a colorful but minimalist fireworks design (hanabi in Japanese) on the outside, but the real magic is actually in the middle.
While decorated to look like a watermelon, the epitome of summer fruits, you will actually be getting a much more intense fruit flavor on the inside: raspberry. The “seeds” are also little bits of chocolate which compliment the raspberry. The green rind isn’t just some random cream either; it’s a delicate matcha green tea flavor that really matches the rest of the roll.
You can get this beautiful summer cake roll at two locations in Osaka from June 20 to August 31 for 2,200 yen (US$ 20.78) a cake. You won’t be able to find a more summer-y looking cake to get you through the blazing heat. The only way they could possibly improve upon it would be to make it with ice cream — we’d be all over that!
