Is there finally a good reason to buy an Apple Watch?
The words “Square Enix” and “announces” in the same sentence are akin to a siren song for me; I cannot ignore the call, though I know it will likely lead to many solitary hours during which my physical fitness will decline at an alarming rate and my social relationships will verge on destruction. So what is Square Enix enticing us with this time?
Cosmos Rings, an RPG for your Apple Watch.

— GAME Watch (@game_watch) July 21, 2016
Yeah, you heard that right. A full-fledged RPG on a screen that’s either 38.6 x 33.3 millimeters (1.51 x 1.3 inches) or 42 x 35.9 millimeters (1.65 x 1.41 inches). Just how much action can you really pack on a screen so small?

Set for release this summer, the game will make use of both the Digital Crown on the Apple Watch to engage some sort of “time reversal system” and the watch’s internal pedometer. The player will receive various messages according to how many steps they’ve racked up daily.
▼ Is this the “Goddess of Time”?

— ファミ通.com (@famitsu) July 21, 2016
Details about the story line are as vague as are those regarding game play. Truth be told, the story line seems kind of generic – valleys of time, time that has been standing still will do so no longer, bringing back the Goddess of Time, and so on.
At this point the game has only been announced for the Apple Watch, which means that if you don’t have an iPhone, you’re gonna miss out. Though it will be interesting to see if the release of this game drives Apple Watch sales, what the world will really be waiting to find out is whether Cosmos Rings will be able to overtake Pokémon Go as the game of the summer, if not 2016.
