Beating this record certain wasn’t a snap for Satoyuki Fujimura – it was 296 snaps.
Japan has often contributed to the upliftment of humankind by striving to set or break Guinness World Records. Whether by hosting the most dancing robots or most dancing mascots than anywhere in the world, or by establishing the longest human chair known to man, this country has continuously shown that humanity can always do better… even if it’s ultimately pointless.
And now the human race has reached another peak recently, when university student Satoyuki Fujimura broke the eight-year-standing record for “Most Finger Snaps in One Minute.” He had actually done so before on a television program in November of last year with 292 snaps, but since there was no official judge present, it didn’t count.
So during a taping of Tante! Knightscoop in Osaka, Fujimura took the stage once again, this time with Guinness judge Kaoru Ishikawa in attendance, and proceeded to let the snaps fly.
By counting only the audible snaps achieved using the thumb and middle finger, Fujimura managed an impressive 296 times in a single minute which breaks down to about five snaps per second. This surpassed the record of 278 set by Sweden’s Jens Gudmansen back in 2009.
Fujimura said that he had learned the secrets of rapid-fire snapping from his mother when he was a teenager and had since honed his skills into becoming the world champ that he is today.
It is a great achievement, and having tried it immediately after watching the video (don’t lie, you did too!) I could only get about two and a half snaps in a second. My mind boggles at the hundreds of callouses and training hours he must have endured to become that fast.
However, I’m a little ashamed to say this, but I’d be remiss not to. Watching that video I couldn’t help but wonder if Fujimura also hadn’t accidentally also broken the record for most realistic mimicking of sexual intercourse allowed on Japanese broadcast television.
Everything from the position of his left hand to the look on his face seems to suggest this is how my man likes to get down. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, or maybe Happy Science is right and I’m just a victim of living in a hell of carnal desire.
