There’s no easier or more appropriate place to cosplay as some of the greatest heroes of the anime and manga world.
While it can’t rival Tokyo Disneyland in size, indoor amusement park J-World Tokyo attracts plenty of anime enthusiasts and pop culture fans, thanks to its attractions based on the characters and situations appearing in manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump. In addition to rotating limited-time displays and events, J-World always has more-or-less permanent salutes to Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto and Gintama.
And starting this month, visitors will get the opportunity to cosplay as characters from those four iconic franchises, thanks to the launching of J-World’s J-Cos cosplay service.
Offering a completely “come-as-you-are” cosplay experience, the 80-minute, 3,500 yen (US$32) Basic Course provides you with the costume and wig of an anime hero, with your options being Dragon Ball’s Goku, One Piece’s Luffy, Sanji, or Zoro, Naruto’s Naruto or Sasuke, or Gintama’s Gintoki, Kagura, or Shinpachi.
The package also includes access to a changing room with makeup products so you can fine-tune your look, plus cloak room service so you don’t have to lug your street clothing and belongings around J-World with you.
Stepping up to the 4,500-yen Special Course also gets you access to character specific props, which should come in handy for the photos you’ll no doubt be taking after you get changed. Speaking of photos, for 2,00 yen the J-World staff will take a commemorative picture of you and your cosplay crew and provide you with a framed print.
The J-Cos service becomes available on April 21. And don’t forget that J-World’s location in Ikebukuro means it’s located right by a number of other otaku attractions, such as a Pokémon Center super store that’s in the very same building.
