No need to have Jeeves ready one’s horse when you can call one a la The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
While there doesn’t seem to be any concrete evidence that playing violent games makes people more likely to commit violent crimes, there does seem to be a lot of anecdotal evidence, at least according to that most reliable of sources, Twitter, that RPG fans’ grip on reality is fairly tenuous with scenes and images from DragonQuest cropping up all over the place. This time, it’s Zelda fans who are a-buzz with a game scene come to life as a Twitter user summons a real-life Epona, Link’s equine companion, by playing Epona’s Song, just like in the 1998 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
https://twitter.com/jetpack/status/928540453158268928According to Twitter user @shiki_mayora, the Epona-lookalike in the video is an Andalusian, named Gallardo, who is always happy to have visitors. While disappointingly whistling, rather than using an ocarina, @shiki_mayora manages a pretty good stab at Epona’s song, the tune Link needed to summon his equine companion, as in the video below.
@shiki_mayora bet that anyone who had ever played the song in Ocarina of Time would feel suitably nostalgic after seeing this video clip, and judging by the responses, they weren’t wrong. It seems that more than a few gamers still have a soft spot for Epona, named after a Celtic deity associated with horses, and the default name for Link’s mount in later games.
“Wow! It’s Epona!”
“A real-life Epona! That’s amazing!”
“As a Zelda fan, I’m so jealous it’s unreal!”
“I thought I was going to going to cry when I heard that tune and with a neigh Epona came trotting over. Epona’s real!”
Playing games can have you thinking, and doing, some pretty weird things, but whistling tunes to lonely nags is probably one of the more acceptable ones.
