There’s something uniquely soothing about microbead cushions. Filled with what feels like countless grains of soft sand, if there’s one lying around, it’s hard to resist the urge to squeeze it. Or lie on top of it. They’re also light enough that you can throw one around the room pretty easily, and in a pinch, they make pretty decent punching bags, too.

Still, there’s only so much abuse they can take, as this sobering snapshot series shows.

Like a lot of people, Twitter user Gota (@fenrir_got) was the proud owner of an adorable Shobon series microbead cushion. But what’s not so cute is what happens once that nylon casing tears, as revealed by Gota in a series of tweets which began with the following announcement:

“My Shobon cushion has passed away.”

▼ “Farewell…”

Things only got sadder as the stuffing continued to pour out, as eventually the cushion’s shell collapsed in on itself, obscuring its once cute facial features.

That’s quite a mess to clean up, but perhaps out of respect to the cushion’s long period of service, Gota didn’t feel busting out the vacuum cleaner would impart the situation with the gravity it called for. So instead, he did the job by hand, filling two Ziploc bags with the remains.

Cheer up, Gota. While you may have lost one microbead cushion, it looks like you just gained two new ones.
