DK 6

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS just hit the stores this past week in Japan, and already over a million copies were sold and with so many different characters to choose from, it’s hard to pick a favorite. Maybe it’s not how the character fights but how it ridicules your opponents as they fly off the battlefield. Nintendo always has their staple characters that have appeared in every Smash Bros. game so far, but there’s one whose taunts are more hilarious than the rest: the master of the bongos himself, Donkey Kong!

With any player versus player game, playing alone and playing with people beside you completely changes the dynamics. There’s nothing quite like turning to your opponent and telling them that they just got destroyed. Certain games even include a taunt for your on-screen character to do which generally leaves them entirely defenseless. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U is no different. Released to critical acclaim, fans are finally getting the chance to throw down all across Japan, and when you can’t experience the joy of taunting someone beside you, Internet play makes it very convenient to taunt someone across the world. So who’s got the “best” taunt in the game?

One Twitter user has posted a picture comparing DK’s taunts in each game.

His derpy face gets progressively derpy-er every time! You can’t help but laugh at this ridiculous taunt. Check out the evolution of Donkey Kong’s taunt over the last three Smash Bros. games.

Japanese fans all agree that DK has one of the most annoying taunts in the game, but even they can’t contain their amusement when presented with that face through the ages.

“I was in the train and could barely contain my laughter.”
“What is that face?!”
“His mouth…”
“It looks like my dad.”
“His eyes are shining.”
“Donkey Kong has many ways of provoking others.”

Fans have even created a song using DK’s various taunts.

While those of us in Japan are happily smashing away, those who don’t own a Japanese 3DS and have to wait for the other regions to release the game, we only have one thing to say to you…

North America, Europe and Australia…look forward to the derpiest of all taunts when Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is available in your country.
