As information technology continues to evolve, telecommuting is becoming increasingly feasible and popular in Japan. Still, sometimes mobile workers find themselves in need of more business-oriented facilities than their home office has, and make use of shared workspaces like the ones we previously looked at.
But while all of those communal offices have amenities such as Wi-Fi, power outlets, and meeting areas, only this one has a resident cat that you can play with when you need a stress-relieving break from work.
Q Studio is one of Fukuoka City’s newest shared offices. The facility opened in the Imaizumi neighborhood on May 1, and its relaxing, at-home-style interior looks like a great place for creative types to work on their projects.
A monthly fee of 20,000 yen (US$163) gets you a desk that you can use anytime, but if you’re only planning to come in on weekends and weekday nights, reduced-price memberships of 8,000 yen are also available.
But while clients have been coming in to Q Studio for the past two months, there was a change in the office atmosphere last week with the arrival of Ohana, who’s neither a web-savvy entrepreneur nor professional blogger, but a snow-white kitty who’s been adopted by the management.
As seen in the photos below, Q Studio is equipped with not only desks and chairs, but also places for Ohana to relax, thanks to a partnership with local cat adaptation care organization Fuku Neko House.
▼ Guests are requested to remove their shoes before entering, in order to keep the floors clean for Ohana.
When there’s a lull in the creative process, guests are encouraged to spend a few moments playing with Ohana. It’s no doubt is a great way to mentally refresh yourself, and probably leaves your breath smelling better than a cup of black coffee (as long as you don’t give succumb to the temptation to satisfy your curiosity by stealing a nibble of her cat food).
