Do enjoy cold sake? Are you pleased by aesthetic design? Then we’ve found the perfect gift to treat yourself to!
Lovers of Japanese sake, more accurately called nihonshu in Japanese (the umbrella term “sake” actually refers to any alcoholic beverage), no doubt have their own favorite way of drinking the rice wine, which may also be served hot or cold. The style of drinking vessel also varies from place to place, but one traditional version is called a masu–easily recognizable by its typically wooden, boxlike design.
We’re excited to announce the arrival of a distinctively modern-type masu made from glass and designed to simultaneously look like ice and the grainy surface of wood, affectionately dubbed “HIYAMASU” (hiya/”cold” + masu). The HIYAMASU holds 140 ml of your favorite sake with dimensions of 69 (length) x 69 (width) x 43 (height) millimeters. Its gorgeous design becomes readily apparent in the following pictures:
Just as its name and appearance suggest, the HIYAMASU is a perfect way to enjoy a cup of chilled sake, either with ice cubes or by placing another sake drinking vessel inside and letting it overflow. The glass will keep your drink chilled at a perfect 5°C (41°F) as you enjoy some leisurely time chatting with friends.
Here are three different serving suggestions in picture form:
The HIYAMASU is currently retailing on Shibukawa+‘s website for 6,800 yen (US$58.15); however, orders have been temporarily suspended due to unexpectedly high demand. The website has announced a second round of orders in the near future, so if you’re interested in purchasing the HIYAMASU, please fill in your contact information on the website’s form and you will be contacted when it becomes available again.
