Here comes a message of encouragement from the voice of one of anime’s most famous seafaring heroes.
After a pair of devastating earthquakes and numerous aftershocks, the people of Kumamoto are coping with a difficult situation. Donations and words of encouragement are pouring in from all over the country, but there hasn’t been one with as much “pirate flair” as this message from the voice of hit anime One Piece‘s Luffy, in a Gear Fourth costume, made out of balloons.

Mayumi Tanaka, voice of Monkey D. Luffy, expresses her support for Kumamoto in the best way she can:
“People of Kumamoto, are you alright? Stay calm and take care of yourselves. This is Monkey D. Luffy who will be the king of pirates. Since I’m now here, everything will be OK. Let’s go! Fourth Gear: Bounce Man! I will protect my Kumamoto friends.”
Wonderful words to accompany a wonderful costume! While the rest of us can send donations to the affected areas, in the end, it’s the perseverance of the people that will get them back on their feet. And what better way to fire them up than with a battle cry from the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates!
