Starbucks jams this year’s lucky bag with coffee beans, vouchers, and gorgeous drinkware, all for roughly 50 bucks!
New Year’s in Japan is a time to relax with family, stuff yourself with traditional foods, and scour the shops for fukubukuro “lucky bags”, available only for a limited time. One of the country’s most sought-after fukubukuro comes from the hugely popular coffee chain Starbucks, and this year they didn’t disappoint fans, with a specially branded tote bag filled with goods worth way more than the 6,000 yen (US$51.35) retail price. Let’s take a look at all the goodies below!
▼ In previous years, Starbucks released fukubukuro at two different price points, but this year they ushered in the New Year with the 6,000 yen lucky bag only.
Inside are four drink vouchers, which can be exchanged for a beverage of any size until the end of May. With drinks retailing for up to 610 yen each, that’s 2,440 yen worth of value already back in your pocket!
▼ The remaining 3,560 yen of the original 6,000 yen retail price is made up with two packs of Starbucks ground coffee beans…
▼ Three personal drip coffee bags…
▼ And two types of special Starbucks drinkware.
This stackable mug set features unusual geometric patterns and two different colours, making them perfect for everyday use by coffee-loving couples.
The four-piece Demitasse Set comes with two espresso cups and two plates, both decked out in the Starbucks logo.
And the whole bundle comes complete with a cloth tote bag featuring an image of the famous Starbucks mermaid on the bottom corner.
All in all, that’s roughly 10,000 yen worth of Starbucks goodies for just 6,000 yen! Given its remarkable value, these fukubukuro quickly sold out at a number of stores on opening day, so if you’re lucky enough to spot one of these on your travels, be sure to grab it while you can. The feeling of snaring a bargain like this is a great way to start off the New Year!
