The sun isn’t setting for this Lapras, it’s rising again!
It’s always great to see old, forgotten things given new life by creative and talented people. Whether it’s 100 yen store goods beings used in new and surprising ways or turning worn out pencil stubs into new writing utensils, there’s just something magical that happens every time an old or boring item gets a new shot in the spotlight.
And what better to spruce up than old Pokémon cards? Sure, those cards buried deep away in some box in your closet are still fun to look at as they are, but one online artist named Lunumbra has been turning them into incredible works of art.
▼ Not sure if the altered one on the right is okay to use in a tournament,
but it’s definitely okay to frame and put on your wall!
Lunumbra says that they use acrylic paints and sealant to breathe new life into old and/or damaged Pokémon cards. Every card alteration is one of a kind, depending on the client’s wishes. Sometimes old favorite cards are repaired and improved to hand down to children, matching cards are made as gifts, background are combined among several cards for a group present, and so much more.
Here are just a few examples of Lunumbra’s amazing work:
▼ The original card makes it look like Lapras floated onto a beach,
but the alter makes it clear that there’s plenty more water to surf on.
▼ All the original starter Pokémon,
hanging out in the same field it looks like.
▼ Lunumbra alters foil/holographic cards too,
making them look even more dazzling.
▼ Why play with boring old plain energy cards
when you can spice them up a bit?
▼ That Snorlax was so hungry it ate all of the text box!
▼ A few shots showing the progression of this Eevee card…
▼ …to its final form. It’s so cute!
▼ And one of my favorites, a plain old original Psyduck card…
▼ …transformed into a majestic masterpiece.
If you want to see more of Lunumbra’s work, then be sure to check out their official Facebook page. You can also check out their Twitch channel where they show off some live altering work, so you can maybe try your own hand on some of those cards in your closet.
Though we recommend checking out one professional manga artist’s two-minute clips about how to improve your drawing skills, and also perhaps the Pokémon Art Academy 3DS game, before making any alterations to your cherished Charizard.
