Survey reveals the top ten candidates who fans believe have what it takes to lead the country.

With the recent general election in Japan, the topic of who should be Prime Minister of the country has been at the forefront of everyone’s minds. And with Japan having to deal with complex issues involving declining birth rates, education, and missiles from North Korea, sometimes it seems like an easy fix to all the country’s problems would be to elect someone with super powers from the magical world of anime.

So if we could choose an anime character to lead the country, which one would it be? That’s the question that anime and game character site Charapedia put to 10,000 anime fans of all ages this month. Let’s take a look at their top ten choices below!

10. Hidetoshi Dekisugi from Doraemon (240 votes)

Hidetoshi Dekisugi, or Ace Goody, is an over-achieving student who aces everything he tries, making him the envy of his classmates. Despite being a brilliant athlete, and consistently scoring 100 percent on his tests, he always maintains a sense of modesty and never shows off, which is a trait sorely lacking in some of our world leaders today.

9. Naruto Uzumaki from Naruto (310 votes)

How awesome would it be to have a shinobi for a Prime Minster? We can think of a number of scenarios in the real world where his Shadow Clone Technique would come in handy. Although he’d have to hold back on using the Sexy Technique to avoid being embroiled in a political scandal!

8. Koro Sensei from Assassination Classroom (364 votes)

What’s not to love about a bright yellow octopus-like junior high school teacher who helps improve his students’ grades? He’d be perfect if not for the fact that he plans to destroy the earth after teaching class 3-E for a year. Still, if Koro Sensei were to be Prime Minister his steely determination would probably result in vast changes throughout the Japanese education system, and we’re sure he’d have no patience for unruly students who show disrespect to their teachers like this one.

7. Gintoki Sakata from Gintama (395 votes)

Personally, we would love to see a samurai like Gintoki enter politics, purely for the traditional garb he could wow us with on formal occasions. Despite being a charismatic leader though, his brilliant combat skills and swordsmanship would be wasted in a office position.

6. Kankichi Ryotsu from Kochikame (479 votes)

As the Chief Patrol Officer of the Kameari Kouen-Mae Police Box, Ryo-san is a character who’s already in a position of authority in his own little world. Knowledgeable about a number of topics, he would make a great speaker, although his love for gambling, cabaret clubs and investing in scams would certainly be his downfall.

5. Shinichi Kudo from Detective Conan (523 votes)

https://twitter.com/patrick3915/status/914079009163681792

Known abroad as Jimmy Kudo from Case Closed, Shinichi is a 16-year-old detective who helps solve murder mysteries for the Tokyo Police Force. While he might be a brilliant detective, the fact that he swallowed a poison that shrank him down to the size of a first-year elementary student means his tiny stature would probably make him the smallest Prime Minister in the world.

4. Keigo Atobe from Prince of Tennis (569 votes)

Rich, arrogant, and handsome, Keigo is the captain of Hyotei Academy, a private school in Tokyo. His privileged background is one often seen in politics, although Keigo’s credentials as the captain of the tennis team mean he could use tennis diplomacy to help bring nations together…or thrash world leaders in a match on the tennis court.

3. Kosaku Shima (614 votes)

As a Japanese white-collar worker, or salaryman, Kosaku Shima’s career has gone from strength to strength. First starting out as a section chief at Hatsushiba Electric, Kosaku was promoted to manager and executive-director and then president of the company. His relatable character would definitely work in his favour, helping him to win over voters if he were ever to run in a Prime Ministerial election.

2. Shiba Tatsuya from The Irregular in Magic High School (768 votes)

Intelligent, analytical and sensitive, Tatsuya also has magical abilities which he could use to improve the world around him. Poverty, climate change, and conflict could all be a thing of the past under his leadership.

1. Lelouch vi Britannia from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (801 votes)

https://twitter.com/homelessotaku1/status/904918333488844800

As the leader of a resistance movement out to destroy an imperial monarchy, this former prince is known for having a genius-level intellect and a remarkable ability to devise and execute strategies with precision and speed. While these are impressive character traits, Lelouch’s Geass, which allows him to place commands within a person’s mind just by using eye contact and makes people obey his orders without resistance, would come in handy for a leader who has to deal with the likes of Kim Jong Un.

So there you have it, the top ten characters that Japanese anime fans would like to see as Prime Minister. Who would you cast your vote for? Let us know in the comments section below!
