These sleek ornaments are perfect for a history buff interested in legendary warriors of the Sengoku period of Japanese history.
Looking for a quality gift for your samurai-obsessed pal? Tadayasu Co., Ltd., producer of traditional Japanese armor, has released a set of intricately crafted bottle toppers in the guise of famous samurai helmets. They’re designed to fit snugly over the top of your drink of choice, whether it’s a large bottle of Japanese sake or your favorite bottle of wine.
The inspiration for the helmets is described on the English version of the official website:
“The kabuto helmet, a symbol of Japan’s traditional armor craftsmanship, is exquisitely reproduced. Thoughts are turned to feudal warlords….Your favorite bottle becomes a ‘samurai,’ and protects your thoughts and feelings.”
There are five varieties of Samurai Bottle Helmets to choose from, all featuring classic helmet designs associated with five of the most famous warriors of the Sengoku Jidai (c.1467-1600) of Japanese history.
▼ Uesugi Kenshin (1530-1578), ruler of Echigo Province and also a skilled administrator
▼ Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582), regarded as the first of three great unifiers of modern-day Japan
▼ Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616), the third great unifier of Japan and founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate
▼ Date Masamune (1567-1636), founder of the city of Sendai and known as the “One-Eyed Dragon”
▼ Sanada Yukimura (1567-1615), a general in the Siege of Osaka and subject of numerous legendary feats
Intricate details ensure that the helmets are aesthetically pleasing no matter which angle you view them from:
They also come packaged in a stylish box with an additional acrylic stand if you’d prefer to display them sans alcohol.
As quality is key here, one bottle helmet will set you back 30,000 yen (US$274) at Tadayasu’s website. For a true samurai buff, however, that is a small price to pay for a well-crafted collectible.
