The answer has been between guys’ legs the whole time, but that doesn’t mean we should all be rude to each other.
When dining at a ramen restaurant, customers expect sustenance and satisfaction. Stamina Ramen Kota, a restaurant in Naka, Ibaraki Prefecture, provides both of those, but it also offers something that most eateries don’t have on their menu: an initially crass yet surprisingly profound life philosophy.
Japanese Twitter user @honda_dohc_vtec stopped in Kota while on vacation, and before leaving the restaurant he used the bathroom, where he saw this hand-written message from the restaurant’s owner hanging on the wall.

The sign reads:
“Some people may not like this, but…
You should live your life like a dick.
If you work hard and get things done when you need to, then you’re doing OK.
If you work long and hard 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, you’re going to wear yourself out.
Staying loose and free-swinging most of the time is what’s best for your body and soul.”
It’s actually a pretty compelling argument, and many other Twitter users nodded in agreement, with some also offering their own interpretations of the metaphor.
“You just need to get up for the big moments in life.”
“I…can totally agree with that.”
“I think the best proverbs aren’t the ones that try to sound cool, but the ones that are actually sort of silly.”
“Some of us are big, and some of us are small. Some of us finish things slowly, and others finish them quickly. There are truly many ways to live life.”
“I see. So it’s OK that I spend most of my time alone at home, and just come out when there’s a reason to.”
▼ @honda_dohc_vtec and other satisfied customers also point out that the house specialty stamina ramen, made with a thick ankake sauce, liver, and kabocha (Japanese pumpkin) is delicious, as are the other types of ramen Kota serves.

In addition to the Naka branch that @honda_dohc_vtec visited, Stamina Ramen Kota also has a branch in Ibaraki’s prefectural capital city, Mito, though it’s unclear whether that branch also seeks to help customers rethink their lives by having them think about dicks.
