Osamu Mukai is a well-known drama and commercial actor in Japan, best known for playing heart-throb types on prime time TV. He also apparently does not speak English or pay much attention to his fashion choices, as a recent appearance on what seems to be a typical Japanese evening talk show proves.
While the majority of the Japanese audience probably had no idea what the English on the actor’s drab green T-shirt meant, one eagle-eyed Twitter user seems to have noticed, and thus immortalized, Mukai’s unfortunate fashion choice for the world to see.
In the screenshot, Mukai is pictured standing next to a particularly petite Japanese talento actress looking down at something and laughing. Quite whether he’s in on the joke, we’re unsure, but his smile pairs incredibly well with his T-shirt, whose message reads: “PLEASE TRUST ME. I AM ASSHOLE.”

Now, it seems to us that if the shirt had at least used the grammatically correct “an” before the “asshole” part, it would at least have a sort of ironically humorous message, but “I AM ASSHOLE,” in addition to being bad English, sort of conjures up the image of, you know… a literal butthole.
In an even more humorous twist, the Japanese Interwebs is known to have a laugh at “stupid foreigners” wearing T-shirts with dumb Japanese kanji characters on them, so the Mukai photo has most likely left more than a few commenters eating crow.
Since these language-based “wardrobe malfunctions” seem to happen with relative frequency (and not just in Japan), our advice is this: Play it safe and only wear T-shirts featuring text either in your native language, or failing that Wingdings.
