As you’ve no doubt already heard, the annual Tokyo Game Show is currently underway at the Makuhari Messe exhibition centre in Chiba Prefecture (yup, just like Tokyo Disneyland, TGS isn’t actually in Tokyo…).
It’s fair to say this year’s show is a little smaller than in years gone by, but there’s still plenty to see and do. If, however, you’re one of the millions of poor souls who can’t simply hop on a train to check it out, or only ever have a chance to see the show on its much busier public days, we have a little treat for you today: three minutes of video and a whole host of photos taken at Tokyo Game Show by our very own staff.
From Mario plushies to the GREE girls’ stage shows, there are all kinds of weird and wonderful things to take in at TGS this year, so we thought you might like a little peek inside during the press and business days. Some of the footage is admittedly a little rough, but we hope this will give you a taste of what Tokyo Game Show is all about.
Enjoy!
And, if you’re the kind of person who finds moving images too much, here’s a look at the show in photo form!
▼From Software’s Bloodborne is being heralded by many attendees I spoke with as the game of the show.
▼ You can never have enough Square Enix music, can you?
▼ It wouldn’t be a Japanese trade show without Gundam, now would it?
▼ As well as Sony’s Project Morpheus, virtual reality was available to try at the Oculus Rift booth.
▼ Kirby t-shirts! I may or may not have bought the one on the left for myself…
▼ No idea. Kind of cute, though.
▼ Not a bong or hacky sack in sight…
▼ Sony was pushing its smartphones hard this year.
▼ Despite Xbox being the definite underdog in Japan, Microsoft had a sizeable presence at TGS.
▼ In stark contrast to the dozens of banners and posters outside for the game, Psycho Break (The Evil Within outside Japan) was actually shoved away in a tiny booth at the back of the Xbox section alongside older titles like Dead Rising 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome.
▼ This was the “something for the ladies” apparently.
▼ Men and welcome alike queued to have their photos taken with these strapping young lads.
▼ We’re really not sure what’s happening here.
▼ Sonic The Hedgehog turned up to make us sad again that Sega doesn’t make consoles anymore.
▼ This is what I usually wear to play video games too…
▼Monster Hunter never fails to show up to TGS.
▼ A rare glimpse of Nintendo at the Hyrule Warriors stand.
▼ So much wonderful merch, I cannot possibly own it all!
▼ See? We told you this little guy would be there!
▼ Dragon Quest stuff is everywhere!
▼ Dragon Quest outfit, anyone?
▼ Oh, hey, Chief!
▼ Metal Gear Solid goods appeared en masse.
▼ When asked what chocolate crunch had to do with Metal Gear Solid, this booth attendant half shrugged and told me, “It’s in a box.” Touché, sir. Touché.
▼ Despite already having launched, Destiny had a big presence at Sony’s booth.
▼ Sony also debuted a solid number of upcoming titles, including next year’s The Order 1886.
▼ The Order‘s Sir Galahad. He even had nasal hair…
▼ The new pink PlayStation Vita.
▼ And of course, that very cool silver Dragon Quest-themed PlayStation 4.
