If you’re a proud cat owner, odds are you’ve got pictures of your favorite feline on your smartphone. We also know that plenty of people like to keep up on the latest developments on cat-related cuteness by surfing the Internet with said devices.
But if that’s still not enough, now you can keep your electronics upright with an adorable cat coming out of your smartphone.
Novelty toymaker SK Japan handles a number of fictional cats, selling merchandise for Doraemon and the Pink Panther. Their newest product though, is a bit more realistic looking, at least as far as the cats themselves go.
The line is called Ittekinyasu, which is a play on words between ittkimasu (“I’ll be back later”) and nyao, the onomatopoeia for cats meowing in Japanese.
▼ Which is why they’re popping out of cat doors
Thankfully, you won’t actually have to cut a square hole into your smartphone and screw on a door. Instead, the backside of each unit has a suction cup attached.
Simply stick it on the back of your phone, and watch as the kitty shows a surprising amount of industrious gumption by holding the unit up by bracing his front paws against the table.
▼ The setup is surprisingly stable, as shown by the angle it’s able to maintain.
Like a lot of Japan’s quirkier trinkets, these stands aren’t sold in stores. Instead, you can buy them from the gachapon toy vending machines found outside of book and gift shops, electronics retailers, and other entertainment-oriented shopping spots.
Each costs 200 yen (US$1.75), and a total of six kitties are available, according to the booklet that came with ours. From left to right, there’s Mike (not to be confused with Mike the cat donut), Kuro, Sabatora, Shiro, Hachiware, and Chashiro.
If we’re being completely honest, we would have liked to snag a Mike or Kuro, since their protruding hindquarters are somehow even more surreal than the cute little faces of their colleagues. Still, we’re more than happy with our duo of Shiro and Sabatora, and look forward to their continued service of propping up both our smartphones and our spirits.
▼ Keep up the good work, little guy!
