The last couple of years have been benchmark ones for Halloween in Japan. What was once a holiday marked mostly by the infrequent sighting of a handful of mildly embarrassed-looking, costumed foreigners on the Yamanote Line train has grown into a massive industry.
In fact, Halloween has become just as much a holiday about 20 and 30-somethings dressing up as sexy nurses, sexy zombies, sexy superheroes, and other sexy-choose-a-nouns as its American counterpart. But while those costumes were no doubt getting plenty of attention on Shibuya Crossing last night, the Japanese Internet had already decided the undisputed Queen of Halloween was this far more conservatively dressed “once-in-millenium beauty”.
A few days in advance of actual Halloween night, a “Halloween Parade” event was held in the Odaiba area, where an “idol enthusiast” photographer captured a few snapshots of Kanna Hashimoto sporting a somewhat generic-looking Halloween mishmash costume.

But her intense cuteness nonetheless dazzled netizens, who reminded everyone why she’s the reigning “once-in-a-millenium beauty,” a term apparently found in more than one East Asian country and used to describe a girl so eye-searingly cute or classically beautiful that one could only possibly come around once every thousand years.

Of course, Kanna is already popular enough to have her own Wikipedia page in multiple languages, and we wholeheartedly agree that she is easy on the eyes, but we do have to wonder about the actual truthfulness of the “once-in-a-millennium beauty” moniker. We’ve already seen a few others being bestowed the label just this year alone!
