In September, we introduced you to the new line of Ghost in the Shell ukiyo-e prints being prepared by OtakuWorks Inc. The first print was a relatively simple but beautiful take on the original movie poster, and while this second entry is equally limited and beautiful, its inspiration comes from a slightly different source: it’s based on the 24-hour Cherry Blossom Stakeout scene from the newest film!
The newest Ghost in the Shell ukiyo-e print, pictured above, draws its inspiration from the “24-hour Cherry Blossom Stakeout” scene in Ghost in the Shell: The Movie, which was released in June this year. It’s a big jump from the first film to the newest, but we have to say, we can’t think of a better scene to be turned into a ukiyo-e print!
The Japanese paper used for the prints will again be made by Ichibe Iwano, a “living national treasure” and ninth-generation master of Echizen paper. The print illustration has been prepared by Kazuchika Kise, the film’s director, who’s provided a new different take on the scene.
There will be only 300 prints made worldwide, and pre-orders will be accepted from now until early December. Delivery is expected to be between April and June next year, and the prints will cost 43,200 yen (or US$370 from the international store, not including shipping). You’ll have to pay via PayPal, unless you live in Japan, in which case you can use a bank transfer.
Hopefully orders will be delivered in time for hanami next year. We can’t think of a better way to kick off spring than a new Ghost in the Shell print!
