PS 1

Newest Pokémon anime ending theme is cute, catchy, and easy to sing along to.

If you’re a cynic, you could accuse the producers of the currently airing Pokémon XY & Z TV series of being extraordinarily lazy in giving their show’s newest ending theme the simplistic title of “Pikachu’s Song.” On the other hand, after watching and listening to the following video, it’s hard to imagine a more appropriate name for the closer.

As announced last month, the ending theme features vocals by Ikue Otani, who’s been voicing the loveable Pocket Monster since the very beginning of the anime franchise. What’s more, while there are hundreds of different species of Pokémon, the visuals that accompany “Pikachu’s Song” only feature the titular electric-type, in adorably large numbers.

▼ And, of course, any proper Pikachu gathering requires a lot of ketchup.

PS 2

Like most Japanese music videos, the lyrics appear along the bottom of the screen. Even if you can’t read Japanese, though, it’s still easy to sing along, since “Pikachu’s Song” is, structurally, a repeating chant, with the video’s vocal being:

Pikkachu pikkachu pikkacchu (Pikkachu pikkachu pikkacchu)
Pikapika pikachu pikkachu (Pikapika pikkachu pikkachu)
Pikapikapikapika (Pikapikapikapika)
Pikapikapikapika (Pikapikapikapika)
Pikapika (Pikapika)
Pikapika (Pikapika)
Pika (Pika)
Pika (Pika)
Pikka~!

Now go gather a dozen of your Pokémon-loving pals and record your own cover.
