Shibuya photography session will give you a literal snapshot of two of the coolest aspects of Japan.
Japan draws people to it both for its rich cultural history and dazzling modern spectacles. It’s a country of both centuries-old traditions and contemporary urban energy, which brings us to a new service from Tokyo’s Samurai Armor Photo Studio.
Recently, we’ve seen photography outfits offer a number of samurai-themed options, some with stylish digital backdrops. But Samurai Armor Photo Studio is keeping things in the real world with its just-announced Shibuya Street Shooting Course. After a few quick poses in the studio, the staff will guide you out into the bustling Shibuya neighborhood to take your picture in front of some of the city’s most famous landmarks while dressed in the battle garb of a feudal warrior.
In addition to the iconic 109 shopping tower, sample photos include shots taken at the statue of Hachiko (Japan’s legendarily loyal dog) and the old-school signpost marking the location of the Dogenzaka district.
▼ Sadly, the Colonel wasn’t wearing his samurai armor on this day.
The entire shoot takes roughly two hours, and costs 30,000 yen (US$290) for solo samurai. If you’re going with a brigade of fellow swordsmen, each additional member adds 10,000 yen to the fee, with the maximum group size being a party of six.
Reservations can be made online here.
