There is no way you’ll leave this place without feeling like you got your yen’s worth.
If you walk into a McDonald’s, you can put down 400 yen (about US$4) and get a quarter pounder with cheese. A quarter of a pound seems like a lot, but not when you compare it to what you can get for 555 yen (about $5.50) at Kitchen DIVE in Kameido.
Just a few minutes from Kameido Station in Tokyo, this shop is open 24 hours a day. Their specialty appears to be bento, but their forte is giving you an obscene amount of food for a great price. A sign outside the door advertises a satisfying 200 yen ($2) takeout boxed lunch. As we found out two years ago, Kitchen DIVE’s 200 yen bento is a steal at the price because you’d normally expect to pay upwards of 500 yen for a meal this size. But, in fact, you can upgrade their 200 yen meal in 100 yen increments until you end up with a bento box that is so full of meat and other goodies that the rice underneath is completely hidden.

However, that’s not what we are here for. Over in another section is the fabled 555 yen bento that looks like it should cost closer to 1,000 yen ($10). And when they add a huge portion of rice in a separate container and it’s like hitting the food jackpot!
The real prize is what’s in the meal. Plenty of fried food but there is also shumai (pork dumplings) and a hefty hamburg steak. Dig a little deeper and there is a hidden surprise underneath: spaghetti and yakisoba!

Just looking at all of this food is making us feel full. We can practically guarantee that you’ll never go hungry when you visit Kitchen DIVE yourself, and since it’s open 24 hours, you can head there whenever the munchies hit you!
