Free drink promoting new anime series has cleverly designed bottle that could become new way for otaku to express their love for their 2-D crushes.
The Japanese autumn TV season is just around the corner, and that means a slew of new anime series are about to debut. One of the more highly anticipated titles is Ulysses: Jeanne d’Arc and the Alchemy Knights, which premiers on October 7.
Although Ulysses is set in 15th century France during the Hundred Years’ War, its scales are tipped pretty heavily towards the “fiction” aspect of historical fiction. Male lead Montmorency, an aspiring alchemist attending an academy for potion-makers, meets a bevy of beautiful young ladies, one of whom happens to be Joan of Arc/Jeanne d’Arc.

During the dramatic adventures of Montmorency and his Renaissance-era harem, various sexy shenanigans are also set to unfold. But since Ulysses is originally a series of light novels, a Japanese media segment that’s already rife with suggestive material, the series needs to show something particularly provocative to stand out, and when circumstances conspire that Montmorency’s and Jeanne’s lips meet, their kiss comes with a cascade of saliva.
The Ulysses marketing team is choosing to play up this mouth moisture even more with a promotional event this month in Tokyo’s Akihabara neighborhood where they’ll be handing out bottles of water. That might not sound like such a frisky freebee, until you look at the bottle, which has an illustration of Jeanne’s profile, with her eyes shut and her mouth positioned at the bottle’s neck.
Because of how the drawing is situated, when you lift the bottle up to drink from it…
…you and Jeanne will share a passionate kiss, with liquid streaming from her mouth into yours, just like the saliva does in the anime.
In addition, should you follow the anime’s official Twitter account (found here) and tweet a picture of the water accompanied by the hashtag #ベーゼ水を飲んでみた (“I drank the kiss water”) you’ll be eligible to receive an unspecified prize (and also a few odd looks from anyone who follows you if you snap a photo of yourself while in the act of kissing Jeanne).
On September 30, Jeanne’s voice actress herself, Yuko Ono, will be handing out bottles of “Water Transferred Mouth-to-Mouth from Kissing Jeanne” (as the water is officially known), with your first chance to obtain this exclusive and eccentric beverage taking place between 11 and 11:30 a.m. at manga shop Tora no Ana’s Akihabara B Branch. Ono will next appear at Melon Books Akihabara Branch #1 from 12:30 to 1 p.m., and the final stop on this liquidy journey is Akihabara Gamers Main Branch, from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
Of, and if you should happen to miss all of those times, don’t worry too much about the lost titillation opportunity, since there’s enough jiggling going on in the anime’s preview video to give us a pretty good idea of the animators’ priorities.
