
The taiko drum simulating rhythm game Taiko No Tatsujin has been a hit in game centers and home living rooms for quite some time now. Even the iOS app has fared well, currently standing as the 25th top grossing application on the Japanese App Store.
Still, playing it on a touch screen doesn’t quite match the experience of using a physical drum and sticks. You’d probably be too afraid of screwing up the screen by wailing on it too hard. That’s why Bandai will be releasing a Taiko No Tatsujin drum controller for use with Apple devices.
Although not as large as the original taiko drums of the game this kit fits nicely on a kitchen or coffee table. It runs on three AA batteries and connects via Bluetooth to avoid annoying wires, and appears to work at quite a distance if you’d like to test your vision while you’re at it.
It works with iPhone 4S and up or third generation iPads and up, including the iPad mini. If there was one downside it would be the steep price of 8,715 yen (US$88). However, Bandai is looking to offset that by giving the first 2,000 customers a free Don-chan drum cover with cute stick holders.
In addition to keeping your drum controlled dust free, it appears to surprise women immensely.
