There’s been a lot of unsettling news coming out of the Ukraine this week, so we are pleased to offer you a much happier story from the city of Dnipropetrovsk, southeast of Kiev, about a singing dog and a street musician.
An elderly gentleman had been working as a street musician on a certain street in the city. One day, a stray dog wandered over and seated himself quietly by his chair. When the man began playing his soprano saxophone, the dog joined in, “singing” along. A strange experience for sure, but at the end of the day, the man packed up and went home and the dog too went on his way.
However, it seems as though the dog thoroughly enjoyed performing because he showed up the next day, again joining the old man without any special encouragement. The sight attracted more spectators than usual, which pleased the musician, and they weren’t just watching either. They were dropping money in his case!
Seeing a future in this musical collaboration, the man named the dog Glinga and adopted him. Now they spend their days together, not just when they perform, but at home as well, and both seem happier for the company.
When asked, the man says Glinga is “bow-lingual,” equally comfortable singing Ukrainian or international songs, so if you have a chance to visit the Ukraine, stop by and request your favorite song. You’re sure to gain a new appreciation for it in this very special duet form.
A singing dog and his sweet old man! Don’t you just feel better about the world now?
