Adapting video game stories into live-action feature films is a really hit-or-miss business, and while we all have our own movie preferences, I think the majority would be in agreement that many game-gone-movie titles ended up as a bust. In fact, most of those titles listed over at IMDb barely squeak past a five- out of ten-star rating.

But the success of Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph (while not a movie adaptation of a video game per se), got us wondering, what with those pretty cool character cameos, why not ditch the live-action remakes and go animated instead? Some really amazing artists also seemed to have that idea in mind when they created their own character renditions of some of their favorite video game heroes (and villains)!

1. Sonic The Hedgehog

A classic game, brought back in the classic Mickey Mouse/Felix the Cat style. This look actually suits Sonic pretty well!

2. Assassin’s Creed

How many of you would like to see an animated version of animus-using Desmond’s story? This particular style reminds me a little bit of Disney’s Atlantis.

3. Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag

Here’s another Assassin’s Creed by the same artist, done up as a Disney movie poster. It looks legit, and it actually makes me want to see this made into an animated film!

4. Pokémon

How would everyone’s favorite Pokémon heroes fair with a Disney makeover? Ash pulls of the Disney style pretty well, in my opinion. Pikachu is as cute as always, but something about his eyes throws me off. This would take some getting used to.

5. Super Mario Bros

Who else thinks Bowser would make the ultimate Disney villain? This one is actually done up in more of a Don Bluth style, but it succeeds in making old King Koopa look more villainous than ever before.

6. Metroid

Here’s a really cute one of Samus and her friendly Metroid. The colors on this are simply gorgeous, making it look like canvas painting. We’d love to see an animated Metroid series playing on a Saturday morning!

7. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Here’s another one that would make a pretty great Disney epic.

8. The Legend of Zelda

This Princess Zelda looks like she would fit right in with the her Disney sisters. Gorgeous coloring and background on this one too.

What do you guys think – would you like to see any of these made into animated movies for real?
