If you love cats and owls — and judging from the popularity of cat and owl cafes in Japan, we’re guessing there are a good number of people who do — then the Tokyu Hands Ikebukuro Store in Tokyo may be a place you want to check out this month. Their ongoing special event features various cat and owl-themed products including irresistibly cute sweets, and we just had to share with you the images of these expertly crafted cat and owl cakes!
That’s right, the Tokyu Hands Ikebukuro Store is currently putting on a special event called Neko Fukuro de Ikebukuro (“Ikebukuro with Cats and Owls”), where handcrafted works by over 50 creators featuring cat and owl motifs are being displayed and sold. And as part of the event, special sweets from the owl cafe Fukuro No Ouchi (The House of Owls) are being offered, including not only owl and cat shaped cookies, but cakes that are simply too beautiful to eat!
▼ The sweets available include three cat cakes: from left to right, the Mike-chan cake that contains a cheese mousse filled with peach gelée; the Kuro-chan cake made with chocolate mousse with a slightly bitter caramel filling; and the Shiro-chan cake which is a white chocolate mousse cake containing a strawberry gelée. They also have cat cookies in three flavors: plain , tea, and chocolate.
▼ And the owl cakes look just as stunning: also from left to right, the Shiro Fukuro (Snowy Owl) roll cake with yogurt cream containing pieces of stewed lemon; the Megane Fukuro (Spectacled Owl) cake consisting of vanilla mousse and crunchy almond pieces inside a chocolate mousse; and the Eurasia Washimimizuku (Eurasian Eagle Owl) cake that combines a tea-flavored mousse and orange roll cake covered in a chocolate cream. They also offer the owl cookies in the same three flavors as the cat cookies.
The cakes certainly sound tasty with plenty of fruit and cream flavors to offer, don’t they? Below are some mouth-watering pictures of the cakes that Tokyu Hands shared on their Twitter account, and we have to say, they’re works of art.

So, those of you who go to the event and enjoy one (or more) of these sweets can say that you love cats or owls enough to eat them — and even if you’re not a particular cat or owl fan, well, we think the cakes alone just may be reason enough to make a visit to Tokyu Hands Ikebukuro!
