Disney is getting its hands on all it can this year—you’ll even be able to catch a special performance by Star Wars characters and Arashi at annual singing contest Kohaku Uta Gassen this year.
Kohaku is the red versus white singing competition that is the most popular New Year’s Eve television event in Japan. Popular entertainers are divided up into two teams and sing their hearts out for New Year’s supremacy. Even though Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn’t take the number one spot for the box office in Japan the weekend the movie opened, that doesn’t mean 2015 won’t be remembered as the year the franchise came back in style.
During the singing competition, long-running boy band Arashi will be joined on stage by iconic Star Wars characters such as Darth Vader, Storm troopers, RD-D2, C-3PO and one of the breakout stars of the new movie, BB-8. You won’t want to miss this large-scale special stage event on December 31.

[tweet https://twitter.com/Rearu_Fantasy_/status/679752985078034433 align=center]“On the stage for this year’s Kohaku Uta Gassen, it’s been decided that we will have a joint performance with Star Wars. Everyone knows that this is an epic collaboration and so we’re very nervous, but we are still going to give it our all! No matter the stage we are on, we always enjoy ourselves. Please watch us!”
For the 66th annual Kohaku Uta Gassen, the red team will be led by actress and singer Haruka Ayase and the white team will be led by Yoshihiko Inohara (singer in V6). Each of the leaders will command their singing troops in a fierce no-holds-barred singing extravaganza that you haven’t seen since the 65th version of the competition.
Star Wars won’t be the only Disney property to make an appearance on the show, as Perfume, V6 and Disney also have another special collaboration in the works. Could this be the test run for a fantastic new Disney musical? Tune in on December 31, 2015 to find out!
