Got a spare US$8,500 lying around? Here’s something to spend it on!

If you’ve ever dreamed of having a life-sized Lum in your living room, then you’ll soon have the chance to make it a reality – if you have the cash, that is.

This vibrant, life-sized figure of alien Lum from popular ’80s manga and anime series Urusei Yatsura stands 164 centimetres (5’3″) tall and lovingly recreates in 3D her iconic turquoise green hair, tiger-striped bikini, and shapely body. The stand, which adds on another six centimetres of height, is autographed by series creator, writer and illustrator Rumiko Takahashi. And it will retail for a price of — drumroll please — one million yen, or around US$8,565.

You can check out the website for a 360-degree view of Lum in all her glory.

There’s even an official Twitter account dedicated entirely to the figure which has been updating on the production process.

“One of the appeals of the life-sized figure is that the silhouette is beautiful from every angle. From the realness of the molding of the hands and feet to the weight of the curves, you can feel the extraordinary fastidiousness of the craftsmen.”

“The figure is hand painted by the artisans. The skin isn’t made up of one colour, but a subtle layering of darker and lighter colours to create the lifelike texture you see in the photo.”

Preorders will open on the Pal Shop website from 12 noon on January 22, but with a limited run of only 50 figures you’re going to have to be fast if you want to snatch one up. So, are any of our readers with the money and the space to spare going to be throwing in for one?
