We’ll show you how to never again lose a page number to the dreaded “bookmark slip.”
I love reading, but bookmarking has to be one of my least favorite parts of using a book. I can’t even begin to count how many times I’ve crawled into bed, excited to read the next part of a novel or manga, and then proceeded to watch in horror as I grab the book and my bookmark falls right out of the pages and onto the floor.
I don’t know if the total hours I’ve spent searching for where I left off is more than the total hours I’ve spent reading, but I do know it’s a heck of a lot closer than I’d like.
But now, thanks to Japanese Twitter user @rukow994, that problem is no more!
▼ “My mom made this bookmark. It doesn’t stick out or slip, and I highly recommend it lol. You can make it easily with just some notebook paper or something.”
https://twitter.com/rukow994/status/692642810143477760Yes! This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. It’s time to get… folding!
If you want to make your own origami bookmark, feel free to follow the steps below and try not to laugh as I attempt to make one of my own.
There are two ways to make the origami bookmark. We’ll start with the method that uses less folds:
▼ First, prep your square piece of Rilakkuma stationery
(Pokémon or Hello Kitty will also suffice).
▼ Fold it in half from left to right.
▼ Then fold that in half from top to bottom.
▼ Now fold the upper and lower “squares” in half, folding up the triangle on the lower one, and stuffing the triangle on the upper one inside the bottom pocket.
▼ It takes a little bit of finagling, so keep on pushing!
▼ And then there you have it!
A bookmark as serious about page-number accuracy as you are.
Here’s another method that has more folds but fewer overall difficult ones.
▼ Start off by folding the square in half, then bringing down a triangle in the upper left.
▼ Fold the top half over the bottom half, then fold up a triangle on the bottom right.
Just slide that triangle into the pouch and…
▼ Voilà! Another bookmark magnifique!
▼ I have a feeling these two guys and I are going to become very good friends.
In all honesty I was shocked by how easy it was to make these bookmarks. They’re cheaper than buying other “no-slip” bookmarks, and after testing them out, I was impressed by how sturdy they are too. No amount of book-dropping or page-flicking could get them to fall out.
Ready to never lose your page again? Then grab some cute paper and get folding!
