Finally, a company that recognizes pets are family too!
As the saying goes – pets are the only members of your family that you get to choose. Some people might have a hard time understanding it, but if you have or have had a pet then you no doubt understand the bond that forms over the years between you and your four-legged loved ones. It’s also no secret that seeing them through an illness or losing them to old age or other complications can take a significant toll on one’s emotional and mental health.
In the unfortunate circumstance that one does lose a pet, taking time off of work to grieve might mean using up valuable sick-leave, or even taking unpaid time off, which not everyone can afford to do.
However, one Tokyo-based pet health insurance company, ipet Insurance, is offering its pet owner employees valuable paid time off to spend with their beloved furry family members and to grieve should the unthinkable happen. For each pet they own, employees get three days off for grievance in the case of death, plus two “pet holidays” per year, for time off to spend with their pets.
With at least one-third of their employees owning either a cat or dog, this policy will be a benefit for a lot of workers. A representative of the company has said, “We believe that, as a pet insurance company, we should take the initiative to create an environment which pet owners feel is worth working in, which is why we started this system.”
