Because nothing says “happy birthday” better than a potential fire hazard.
Tradition states that you put candles on a birthday cake equal to the number of years someone has been alive. Most people usually stop that practice after the age of 12 or 13 because the candles start to take up too much space on the cake. However, one particular family decided that they really wanted to give a warm and toasty reception to their 68-year-old grandma by loading up the birthday cake with the requisite number of candles. Needless to say, that was a better idea on paper than in practice.

Thankfully no one was injured in the blaze, and grandma seems to be recovering after using every ounce of her breath to blow out the candles. Whether or not this was a success is hard to tell, but judging by how much wax is covering the cake, it’s clear that it took them a while to light all the candles. As much “fun” as it looks in the video, we should always remember to be safe, especially when we are trying to celebrate an auspicious occasion. And if nothing else, be sure to keep a fire extinguisher handy, just so you don’t have to rely on the lung capacity of a 68-year-old.
