Will you be able to master the way of Sushido?
While Japanese food is as varied as it is delicious, it’s sushi that has garnered fame worldwide. Sushi joints overseas tend to be on the pricey side, which is true in Japan too depending on where you go and the quality of the fish.
But if you want to get your sushi fix on the cheap there are kaitenzushi – or conveyor belt sushi – restaurants which allow you to fill up for as little as 100 yen (about US$1) a plate.
Kaitenzushi aficionados who just can’t seem to get enough of the stuff will soon be able to immerse themselves in action-packed sushi adventures wherever they go, with a new game being released by Nintendo called Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido.
The game, recently announced at this year’s E3 convention in Los Angeles, is a kaitenzushi-themed “action puzzle game” to be released for the Nintendo 3DS. You face your opponent across lanes of sushi rolling past the screen, using the touch pen to collect similar sushi types as they scroll by, and flinging the collected plates at your enemy to inflict damage.
You play the game as either a boy or a girl protagonist who travels throughout the Sushido world, which is torn between two sides over limited sushi supply in a post-war era. The game features an expansive map and the ability to level up throughout your adventures.
The reception from gamers has thus far been mostly positive:
“GOTY material right here.”
“Not the game we wanted but the game we needed.”
“Samus? Nah, Sushido.”
“Finally, a game for us sushi lovers. See guys? Nintendo DOES listen.”
“Gonna buy the game just for the song.”
“I just wanna know where I can get the full version of that sweet trailer song.”
We’re all over that catchy song too, and are looking forward to getting our hands on this delicious game when it’s released. Until then, we’ll just have to be satisfied getting our sushi gaming fix with our sushi dating simulator.
