The deal, which includes unlimited soft drinks too, is back, and better than ever.

Kappa Sushi is one of Japan’s most popular kaitenzushi, or revolving sushi, chains. In the past, it’s come up with such innovative ideas as stylish vegetable sushi and gold-topped sushi cake, but earlier this summer it made the realization that the absolute best way to please sushi fans is to simply give them more sushi, or, technically, an unlimited amount of sushi.

Thus was born Kappa Sushi’s all-you-can-eat sushi promotion, which was offered at select branches from mid-June to mid-July. Not surprisingly, diners came out in droves, quickly filling up the participating restaurants and leaving those who missed out with hearts filled with sadness and stomachs void of all-they-could-have-eaten sushi.

But if you weren’t one of the lucky few who got to take Kappa Sushi up on its offer in June, cheer up, because the unlimited sushi deal is coming back from August 28 to September 8, and with two big improvements.

Just like before, there’s a huge variety of food to choose from, starting with orthodox sushi stalwarts like tuna, salmon, yellowtail, salmon roe, and sea urchin.

But the all-you-can-eat plan includes such modern innovations as tempura, grilled beef, and steamed chicken sushi. Want something other than sushi? You also get unlimited side orders including takoyaki octopus dumplings, edamame soy beans, French fries, udon, and ramen. Save room for dessert, because you also get access to all-you-can-eat pudding, ice cream, cheesecake, and taiyaki sweet bean cakes.

As for those improvements we mentioned? First, the all-you-can-eat offer is being expanded from 20 to 36 Kappa Sushi locations, with the chain’s Nerima, Minami Rinkan, Kitaageo, Ichinomiya Omiya, Minami Tsumori, and Uji branches representing Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Aichi, Osaka, and Kyoto Prefectures, respectively.

But the most welcome change is that instead of having to take your chances showing up at the restaurant and hoping they have seats (and likely standing in line for ages), Kappa Sushi’s all-you-can-eat deal is now exclusively available through an online reservation system.

Kappa Sushi will begin taking reservations at 3 p.m. on August 25, when you’ll be able to make reservations for either August 28 or 29. From August 28 you’ll be able to make reservations for the date two days ahead only. Reservations can be made for dining times between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The standard 60-minute plan costs 1,580 yen (US$14) for men and 1,380 yen for women. Seniors over 65 pay just 980 yen, while elementary school-age children dine for just 780 yen, and children not yet in school eat for free. If 60 minutes isn’t enough to satisfy your unlimited sushi dreams, 10-minute extensions cost just 500 yen and are good for your entire party, not a per-person additional charge.

The reservation site for the all-you-can-eat plan is yet to go live, but once it does the link will be found here, at the plan’s official website (which also has a complete list of participating locations). Oh, and if you fail to get a seat this time too, you’ll be happy to know that Kappa Sushi has already announced that the all-you-can-eat deal will be offered again between September 25 and October 6, as well as from October 30 to November 10.
